JUSTITIA
Mathilde Fenger's history painting of the Impeachment Trial 2021
Justitia, Frederiksborg, National historic Museum
Mathilde Fenger followed the Impeachment Trial of former minister Inger Støjberg during the autumn of 2021 at Eikveds Pakhus in Copenhagen. There, she sketched drawings and met with the parties involved in the case: the two defense attorneys, Nicolai Mallet and René Offersen, the two prosecutors, Jon Lauritzen and Anne Birgitte Gammeljord, the defendant, former minister Inger Støjberg, and the President of the Supreme Court, Thomas Rørdam.
Mathilde Fenger was also present when the verdict was delivered.
The impeachment trial is the sixth in Denmark's history.
Mathilde Fenger's artwork Justitia is a symbolic painting and a paraphrase of the Roman-mythological figure Justitia. In this work, Fenger has portrayed the President of the Supreme Court as a modern Justitia, holding the symbol of the scales in one hand.
